Posh KC Spring Trends

Spring Hair Trends with Posh KC

Are you guys read for spring yet? I am so, so excited for warmer temperatures, flowers popping up all over the place and the idea of getting to be outside a bit more. But I’m also super pumped for flip flops, skirts and NO MORE STATIC HAIR! Anyone else have this issue? My hair is naturally wavy, so in the summer it’s a total dream. The Midwest humidity plus a few select hair products and I have mermaid beach hair without much effort. In the colder months, it’s a different story! The dryness in the air makes me look like I constantly am touching a live wire. I have Albert Einstein hair, and it’s not pretty.

But with spring I start to remember that I actually do love my hair and don’t want to cut it all off! Cute styles and flirty waves go perfectly with my spring wardrobe. While I adore the idea of spring hair, I sometimes don’t know where to start, so I’m glad Posh KC is here to help me out! Posh KC is a blow dry bar located in the Power & Light District of downtown Kansas City. I love Posh KC, because as a busy mom and business owner, it’s pretty wonderful to spend an hour getting your hair (and makeup too!) done. My blowouts tend to last for a few days, so it ends up being a real time saver for me! Plus, who doesn’t love treating yourself to some pampering? A few weeks ago, I photographed some spring trends with the amazing Posh KC stylists (full tutorials to come on their site!), and they were perfectly fresh for the season.

Eat Drink Stitch!

Eat Drink Stitch

Kansas City is such a fun place to be a creative. Now, mind you, I never, EVER thought I’d be a part of the creative community here, but now that I am, I’m constantly amazed by the cool work everyone is doing. I especially love watching people I’ve known for a while grow their creative endevours and become incredibly successful. This is definitely the case when it comes to Kristen Shuler of Hey Paul Studios!

Eat Drink Stitch

You might remember Kristen from when she guest posted here on the blog waaaaayyyy back in the day (click here to read). Kristen and I met through mutual friends, and I think she’s such a kind, smart, crafty lady. We have both been working our butts off the past few years, and haven’t had as much time to connect, but I’ve been watching her adventures via social media. A few years ago, she started Eat Drink Stitch, a monthly series of embroidery happy hours, workshops and crafty events that rotate around various bars and restaurants in the Kansas City metro. Guest stitchers can choose between one of two embroidery designs that have been transferred onto fabric. Each unique pattern is created especially for the event.

Eat Drink Stitch

I was so pumped to be the Guest Blogger at a recent Eat Drink Stitch event held at the Westport Flea Market. As a first time stitcher (and long time horrible crafter) I was a little nervous, but Kristen immediately put me at ease. Many of the guests in attendance were first timers, and Kristen wandered the room, helping get people started and helping them through rough spots.

Eat Drink Stitch

The stitchers were able to choose from five different patterns, and each person received a mini stitch kit with everything they needed to complete their project. I sat at a super fun table with a few of Kristen’s old work colleagues, many of whom had never stitched before either! The Kansas City-themed pattern I chose was way more simple than it looked, and I was finished in about an hour. Stitchers can take as much or as little time to finish their projects, with most people finishing between one and two hours (while munching on snacks from the Flea Market, of course!).

All in all, I had a great time, and I am already planning attending another Eat Drink Stitch event soon with my book club! When my friends saw my photos on social media, they all wanted to know when we were going together!

Bee POSH Portraits

I was so honored and excited to be asked by my friend Melissa to participate in the launch of her brand new business, Bee POSH Portraits! Melissa is the brain behind Hive Workshops (I blog for the Hive Workshops website and have also taught classes on blogging and social media marketing through them), and just this week she launched her new business, which focuses on creating luxury beauty portraits for the everyday modern woman. Bee POSH also provides head-shots, fitness, fashion photography for brands and modern bridal portraiture.

Bee POSH Portraits

As a photographer, I’m not a huge fan of being the person IN FRONT of the camera. Behind the camera in my schlubby flannel shirt is my favorite place, but the Bee POSH experience made me feel amazing. With the professional hair and makeup team, the wardrobe, the beautiful studio in the West Bottoms area of Kansas City, and of course the incredible images, I loved every minute of it! Now I just have to convince the DMV to let me use one of these photos as my driver’s license picture…

Bee Posh Sale

If you’d like to learn more about how to book your own Bee POSH session, head on over to bee-posh.com. They are running a special for Valentine’s Day right now, which is an awesome deal. You definitely won’t regret it!

Elf Made Easy Giveaway

Holiday Giveaway : Fete Box’s Elf Made Easy

A few years ago, our family gave in to the holiday hype and shortly afterward a new friend started visiting our house…our very own Elf on a Shelf! Now, I know people have very strong feelings about the Elf on a Shelf thing, but I will admit, I enjoy the whole idea. Part of the fun of the holidays for me is getting to create magic for my kids, and Elf on a Shelf is another way I do that. And it doesn’t hurt that once the Elf arrives (or in our case, two elves) my kids’ behavior straightens up a bit! Added bonus? My hard-to-wake-up kid springs out of bed each morning instead of fighting me or her alarm clock because she wants to find the elves! Our school mornings in December are the easiest we have all year!

The only problem I have with the Elf on a Shelf tradition is when I lack inspiration…I’ve put the elves in every conceivable pose (okay, maybe I just move them from the couch to the bookshelf to the kitchen counter), and I just don’t have the time or energy to come up with uber creative elf scenarios. That’s where Fete Box comes in!
