Goat Weed and Baby Food

Lately I’ve been getting a TON of spam comments on this site. It was really bad when I was using Movable Type as my publishing platform, but when I switched to WordPress, it slowed down for a while. I guess it was only a matter of time before they started trickling in again. That trickle has now become a flood, and it may be because of the addition on the right side of this page. Do you see it? Shameless, I know.

Ads.

Big, old, flashy, colorful, somewhat distracting ads. I’ve always thought it would be a good idea to try and earn a little money from this site. What, with me being a complete sellout in general and having no money. But most of it had to do with the fact that I spend a good amount of time working on this site, and why not be paid for it? You might say, “hey, I thought you liked doing this site and you were against working for the man” or “will you be censored now that big corporations have their newest baby food products on your site?” My answer is, hopefully not. Hopefully my writing will stay the same. And by the same, I mean boring and dry. And full of space camp pictures. And Zac Efron. I can’t believe people actually read this stuff!

And, of course, there’s always the daily comment spam to make me smile. Like this one, received today:

Horny Goat Weed…Get great results in bed!…

Why hadn’t I thought of that before? See, this site is educational too!

What the Eff is a Widget, Anyway?!

You may notice some new little ticks on this site, which, hopefully, won’t give you too large of a panic attack (and if so, seriously, OCD much?). I’ve been messing around with some new applications and widgets, which I hope will make this site more enjoyable and easier to view for you all. Cause, really, it’s all about you. Bastards.

Anywho, here are two of my new finds. First, is a new tool for viewing photos via Flickr. Normally, you see my Flickr photos on the left-hand side of this page, but from time to time, I may add certain sets I’d like to be easier viewing for those of you who aren’t so, ahem, web-inclined.

Try this on for size! Molly photos for everyone!

I’m, obviously, still working out some of the issues, but not bad, huh? Hopefully the few of you who still can’t figure out how to attach files to your emails (you know who I’m talking too, Sister!) will be able to view my pictures a bit easier now.

I’ve also found a new video browser, which is NOT BLOCKED at my office, and seems to provide easier viewing. It’s called Vimeo and I like it a lot. A. LOT.

Finally, I’ve been working on some new promotional ideas for this site, and one you may notice is the new, little “Sk*rt button” at the bottom of each entry. It looks like this:

add to sk*rt

Or sometimes, it looks like this:

add to sk*rt

When you click on this link, you can add any of my posts to Sk*rt, a badass network made for women bloggers. If you’re ever bored at work, this is the site to check out. Members post links to different sites they find amusing or enthralling or strange or goofy or whatever, and then other members can view the sites posted. Let’s just put it this way, if I get posted on Sk*rt, it would be most awesome. So if you think a post of mine is worth sharing with the world, click on this button.

OK, enough with the self-promotion. For now. Bwaaahaaahaaa!

Lulu in the Morning

My very lovely husband emails videos of Lucy to me on those mornings when I’m grumpy or don’t feel like working. I’m really only posting to see if I can with the new software. And because everyone needs a little Lulu in the morning.

P.S. You must have the Quicktime Player installed on your computer to view. To install a free version of the player, click here. It’s legit, I promise.

A new era…or something

The stars have aligned and now I’m finally making this site a little more livable. There is still work to be done, but hey, it’s in progress. Like my new masthead?

masthead

Yeah, me too. It’s fun. I know, it’s small here, but I figured you don’t need to see it huge twice in a row. It’s sized a little funky up top as well, but at least it’s something. And I’m done messing with it for a while, so I’ll ignore that it’s stretched and warped. Like I do with most things in my life.

Redesign is fun (or painful, I’m not sure which)

As you all know, I’ve been working on a redesign of this site for a while. If you didn’t know, then you’re really not paying any attention because I bitch about it CONSTANTLY. My biggest problem is I have a teeny tiny, itty bitty, scope of knowledge about code and CSS in general. I have made huge strides in my design knowledge, which hopefully you’ll soon see evidence of on this site, but I can’t get my totally rad designs on this site without a programmer to do the more complicated bits of code. My other problem is since we’ve switched publishing platforms, I find myself trolling around the backend of this site trying to figure out what the hell I’m doing on a semi-daily basis. Then I pound my head against the faux wall of my cubicle and take a nap. Not really.

Hopefully I can get some updates done this weekend. But more realisticly, because of that baby that I have (who, in my opinion, needs to learn some CSS, because she’s really not pulling her financial weight around here), come Monday, this site will still be ugly. Apologies all around.

Happy Friday, everyone!
