Halloween 2013

Is Halloween already over? I think I’m still in a Snickers coma or something, because I can’t believe it. This year I feel like the days/months/minutes/hours are flying by so quickly, and I’m still stunned when I realize how much time has passed. I am one of those annoying weirdos who loves the holidays so much. October to December is totally my jam, and I do a happy dance when certain stores put up their holiday decorations in August. I mean, Christmas trees in August? C’mon, what could be better?

Anywho, back to Halloween. This year’s was pretty fun. Lucy went as an Aqua Fairy, because she likes the ocean and wants to be a marine biologist, but she also thinks fairies are the very best. Perfect combo. She also threw in some pieces from the Renaissance Fair, which we attended a few weeks back, which caused many people to ask if she was a gypsy. This was a huge problem, but all the candy seemed to cure the issue. Tate went as a KU Basketball Player because once again he refused to wear his planned dragon costume (Remember last year? I should’ve known…). He wore his KU warm-ups to school on Halloween day, so I just gave him a little basketball and called it good. Works for me!

Hope you all had a great, sugar-filled day as well! We were lucky the huge rainstorms that pounded the Midwest left our area a few hours before trick or treating, but it was definitely a little soggy. To those of you who had Halloween cancelled (boooo!), I hope you enjoy your belated Halloween tonight!

Mini-Mini Shoots 2013 – Sneak Peek

Last year’s mini shoot sessions were a ton of fun, but they were also a TON of work. So this year, I decided not to do any mini shoots at all. I was worried about over-doing it and ending up where I was last year (burnt out, blerg)…but then the requests started pouring in. You like me, you really like me! (Cue Sally Field)

At the last minute, I decided to do a flash mini shoot sale, which is totally a term I just made up. I do work in marketing, after all! Basically I put the word out on the Crazybananas Facebook page that I had a short window of time and if you contacted me within the day of the post you could schedule a mini shoot. It worked out perfectly! I had a few families take advantage, and I didn’t overwhelm myself. A total win!

Here are a few images from our fun, and thankfully stress-free, afternoon. Many thanks to those of you that participated! If you were one of the many that couldn’t make it, but still want some holiday photos, I am available for full shoots this fall. You can email me at megan@crazybananas.com for more details on pricing and schedule.

Turning Strangers into Friends

(Chris and Amaira by Richard Renaldi via CBS News)

I came across this story recently and loved it so much, I had to share. The images are magical and the idea behind the project is just lovely. A photographer in New York City grabs strangers off the street and then asks them to pose intimately, as if they are lovers, friends or family members. The results are stunning.

(Thanks to Rachel for the heads up on this story!)

The View From My iPhone

A few photos of life as we know it, through my constant companion, the iPhone (lovingly named “Megan’s Boyfriend”)…life is overwhelmingly good these days.

Photos of Motherhood

Source / Source / Source

I admit it, I’ve been sort of done with Pinterest lately. For so long it’s just felt like one more social media outlet I have to update, and since I’m not much of a crafter or cook, it didn’t really appeal to me. But I’m starting to get my Pinterest groove back. The other day I created a new board called “Motherhood” with photos that make me tear up. Sure, I’m a sensitive soul, but I really believe that motherhood is one of the most beautiful things to witness, and candid photos of moms just get me all weepy. I love moms. They (we) rule. This is the way Pinterest works for me…not in trying to find perfection so that I can attain it, but in finding real life beauty and sharing it.
