Our New Years Holiday

We spent the week of New Year’s in Gove County, Kansas, with our family at Trent’s sister’s farm. What a fun time! We played in a one room school house, had a few dance parties, the kids both got to fly an airplane (No joke, it was awesome! Thanks Uncle Ace!), a movie day, lots of snuggling by the fire and a freak snowstorm that covered everything in a magical coat of shimmer. I swear, I’m okay with winter, as long as there is a hot tea in my hand and a fire to keep me warm. Oh, and it’s vacation so I don’t have to work or drive anywhere. Hope you all had a wonderful holiday too!

And good morning western Kansas. Positive side to the dog waking up at the butt crack of dawn? Early morning sunrise photoshoot! #gratitude #lastsunriseof2013 #sunrise #kansas #canon #60D

Tate flew an airplane today. Yes, a real airplane. It was probably how you'd expect a three year old boy to fly #airplane #copilot #boys #mamaheartattack

Freak snow storm on the prairie! We didn't bring our snow boots so the girls are running around in cowboy boots. #kansas #snow #winter

A Year In Review

Wow, 2013 is coming to a close. I’m feeling a little emotional about the ending of this year. Past years have had lots of life-changing events, but this year was a time of subtle changes. There are a few epic moments, but mostly it’s been one minute, hour and day at a time. I used an app called Flipagram to compile a year’s worth of Instagram photos into 30 seconds, and I felt overwhelming gratitude as I watched the images flip past. I am so blessed. I am so fortunate.

Thanks for sticking with me this year. It’s been a year of changes here on the blog as well. I went from posting 5+ times a week, doing sponsored posts, working with contributors and freelancing around the web to posting 2 or 3 times a week (at most) and getting back to why I started this blog in the first place…to write. I write because I don’t know how I feel about things until I read my thoughts written down. My brain works a million miles a minute, and unless I force myself to sit down and reflect, my thoughts can get pretty jumbled and I have a hard time figuring out what I need/want/think. I needed to get back to that.

2014 has more changes in store for this space. Until some back-end issues are finalized, posting may still be a bit sporadic for a bit. Hopefully soon we will get those items figured out and I will get back to regular posting. Until then, thanks for sticking around. You are the best.

I was lucky enough over the holiday last week to get to shoot some photos of friends and family while in my hometown. Some were for their upcoming holiday cards and some were just for fun! I am little obsessed with how this shoot turned out, featuring my sister-in-law and her husband. I mean, her skirt is so perfect, right?! I feel like it’s a 1970s dream, sort of like the movie Love Story. I applied a little filter on these images (The 600 from Totally Rad Actions for you photogs who might be curious) to ramp up the vintage vibe a bit. I love being able to play around and have people indulge my silliness! Thanks Ashley and Adrian!

Give Thanks, Eat Pie

I got bored = I attempted to get crafty... ✂️ #craftpack #thanksgiving #thankful

Happy Thanksgiving, friends! I’m feeling pretty lucky to have found myself in the midst of another Thanksgiving where I am overwhelmed with gratitude for my life and everyone in it. Last year, I had no idea where I would be today. To be honest, last year’s Thanksgiving was fairly traumatic. We buried our sweet dog, I had just quit my job, and the future was uncertain and scary. This year feels different…like something really amazing is happening in and around me. I’m not quite sure what it all means yet, but I know it’s something to be especially grateful for. Life is good and beautiful and awesome.

Since I haven’t done an Instagram round-up for a while, I thought it might be a good time to share some iPhone photos of a few things I’m grateful this year. I hope you have a fantastic holiday, and I need you to do one thing for me…eat at least two slices of pie. Do it for me, okay? I promise to eat a few slices of my own in solidarity. We need to stick together, you know.
