Missing Molly

Molly Rotty

I’m a little sad today, friends. One year ago today we had to say goodbye to the most wonderful dog in the world, Professor Molly McGoo, PhD. I’m still not over it. I miss her sweet face, the sound of her nails clicking on the kitchen tile and her tail thumping on the stairs when she’d see someone coming her direction. She was truly a special creature, and I’m starting to worry we’ll never find another pet as perfect for our little family. Tate still points at her photo and asks where she went, and Lucy keeps her ID tags on the dresser in her room. We are all ready for a new pet to join our home, but we still haven’t quite found the right one. The last few weekends the kids and I have visited a few shelters, but while there were lots of great animals looking for homes, there weren’t any that seemed to fit in with our crew.

We will keep looking, and I know we’ll find him or her eventually. I mean, Molly was found on a random, unplanned stop to a (now defunct) local shelter and she was total perfection. Man, oh man, I miss that dumb dog.

Happy Weekend!

happy weekend

Well, hi there, Friday! I’m so excited to see you. We are still in our hometown for the holiday weekend, soaking up some fun family time. The upcoming month holds big changes for our family, so I’m enjoying these last quiet days before the world goes nuts (explanation coming in a future blog post, I promise!). I hope you are relaxing, sleeping off your food coma from yesterday and finding lots of time to be lazy!

Here are some fun links from around the web, just in case you need a break from all of the family time:

These super creative Facebook timelines have me wanting to redesign my own!

Vintage photos of the girl who inspired Alice in Wonderland.

This is the first year I’ve participating in Fantasy Football, so I’ve been paying more attention to the NFL than I normally do (normally I devote negative 20% of my time to NFL football). This clip of the hosts of NFL Tonight trying to work in lines from The Princess Bride into their broadcast was the best! Maybe I’ll pay more attention now! (Probably not.)

I’m definitely making these spray-paint chalk stencils! What a cool project. It’s like graffiti for rule followers!

An open letter to President Obama on the state of science education. So good.

Ten people singing Taylor Swift songs better than Taylor Swift. Also, these girls are my favorite singers on the web this week. Just adorable and so talented! And now I might have to watch that damn Nashville show. Darnit, you talented kids, making me watch more television!

A new Hairdresser on Fire tutorial is up and it’s my favorite one so far (I say that every time, but that doesn’t mean it’s not true!). How to do a zipper braid/bun in less than two minutes. On a subway escalator. You know, in case you need to do that someday.

I love the Humans of New York blog, so this video was perfection to me!

Hooray! The “What We Wore” series on Bleubird Vintage is back! They’ve been on hiatus for a while, so I was so pleased to see this earlier this week. Love this family and their impeccable style.

Here are a few Instagram images from the past couple of weeks. I know some of these include Miss Molly, but I’d feel strange omitting them. She was a part of our family, and just because she’s gone, doesn’t mean she’s left our thoughts. You can follow our adventures on Instagram at @Crazy_Bananas.

The Best Dog Ever

Molly Rotty

I was all set to write a fun end of the week post today…but unfortunately I have some sad news from my little family. Our wonderful, loyal, beautiful dog, Professor Molly McGoo, Phd., died last night. We are so very, very sad. Molly was an old dog, but her sickness came on quite quickly, and so soon after the loss of Grandpa Ron. Lucy is taking it very hard, because right before Grandpa Ron passed, her other pet, Rainbow the Fish, died as well. Our poor little girl has been through a lot these past few weeks, as have we all.

Instead of wallowing in sadness, I’d like to take a minute to remember how awesome Molly was. She was the second pet Trent and I adopted together, and we couldn’t have lucked out more. She was a shelter rescue, and had such an even, sweet temperament. When Lu was a baby she’d follow her all over the house, making sure she was okay. Even though she was older when Tate was born, she tolerated his craziness, always letting him pull on her ears and tackle her when he was trying to give her hugs. She was big enough to be scary when people came to the door, but would never hurt a fly. She was truly wonderful, and we were lucky to have so many lovely years with her by our side.

We love you Molly, and we already miss you like crazy.

This might be my favorite picture of the Professor. Poor Molly Moo gets dumped on more and more now that we’re in suburbia (a walk? damn, dog, just poop in the backyard!), but we still adore her. Even though she insists on sleeping right next to my side of the bed and tripping me every morning.

Just wait for this Halloween…I suspect the entire family may dress up as characters from Star Wars…after all, I totally have the Darth Vadar mask and Molly would be the perfect Yoda. Now I just need to convince Trent to wear a gold bikini, and we’re set!

Mandy Moore Movie Night

As I’ve mentioned on several occasions, I am totally awesome. Really. The coolest.

If there was any doubt in your mind, I’d like to present to you a visual representation of my Saturday night. Trent was out of town on business and I was supposed to have a movie night with someone (AHEM, Mikayla!), but at the last minute she changed her mind and decided to go out barhopping. I am not jealous. I swear. I’m not. Stop looking at me. I am not jealous!

How could I be? I ended up having movie night by myself. And not just any movie night, Mandy Moore Movie Night (MMMN).

Did I mention how awesome I am?

Let me present the players. The first tool needed for MMMN is a collection of required reading. These were provided by my daughter’s babysitter.

Next, make sure you have a ferocious guard dog in case of a burgler or in case you don’t feel like getting up to go to the kitchen, but you have a dirty plate full of salsa and cream cheese that needs to be cleaned.

Also, note the pink carpet.

For MMMN, you must stay hydrated! Additionally, wine helps make cheesy dialouge much more profound.

Keep arts and crafts handy, as MMMN films don’t always require a large use of brain cells. These will keep you busy enough that you won’t notice the lack of plot or realistic premise. I prefered to use the baby book I’ve been trying to make for Lucy since she was born.

Now lets get to the real deal. MANDY!
Walk to Remember
TBS seemed to be aware I was hosting a MMMN party all by my lonesome and felt it would be a good idea to contribute an airing of A Walk to Remember, starring homely Mandy who is just screaming for a Hollywood makeover.

Presenting… the Hollywood makeover!

Moving on to Chasing Liberty and the second MMM cute boy of the night.
Was his name Ben?

Then Mandy got a little slutty.
Hmmmm

And now, the big finale! The hands down cutest boy in a MMM and therefore the unofficial winner of MMMN (You didn’t realize there was a winner, did you?! Could this event BE more fun?)……

Uh oh, looks like Johnny thinks it’s time for bed…and I agree. And no, I’m not drunk. OK, maybe a little.
